Laverne H. White
Laverne H. White age 91 of Plum City died Saturday March 7, 2015 at the Plum City Care Center in Plum City.
Laverne was born July 18, 1923 on the family farm in rural Maiden Rock. He was the son of Merton and Esther (Haglund) White and grew up in that area. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II in the North Atlantic and the Normandy Invasion. After the service he returned to Plum City and married Virginia Falkner June 30, 1948 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Plum City. After marriage they farmed in the Township of Maiden Rock, rural Plum City. After farming they moved into Plum City and Laverne worked for Raulston-Purina in Hager City until he retired in 1995.
Laverne enjoyed playing golf, playing cards, traveling, volunteering at various charities.
Laverne is survived by his wife, Virginia, a son Ronald (Rachel) of Lake Geneva, a daughter Janet (James) Smith of Minneapolis, MN; three grandchildren, Rosie (Jon) Lodien of Minneapolis, MN, James L. and Megan Smith both of Minneapolis, MN, a sister, Joyce Schultz of Minneapolis, MN, a sister-in-law, Frances White of Red Wing, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Russell, Merlin and Wayne; two sisters, Harriet Kahabka and Violet Olson.
Memorial services will be 11:00 AM Friday March 13, 2015 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Plum City with Rev. Paul G. Czerwonka officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given in Laverne’s name to St. John’s Catholic Church.
