Joyce J. Herbison

Joyce J. Herbison, age 87 of Plum City, died Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at the Plum City Care Center in Plum City.

Joyce was born on February 8, 1928 in the Town of Union, rural Plum City on the Ebensperger Family farm. She was the daughter of Jake and Anna Louise (Martin) Ebensperger. Joyce grew up in the Plum City area and graduated from Plum City High School in 1945. Joyce married James Herbison on September 29, 1945 in St. Paul, MN. In 1952 they bought the Ebensperger Family farm where they farmed and raised their family. Joyce was active on the farm with her husband James for many years and long after James’ passing in 1983. She was especially proud when the farm was recognized as a Century Farm in 1993. Joyce was active in the Pierce County Farm Bureau, serving as President and on the Board of Directors, she also served on the Ellsworth Creamery Board for 11 years. She took many trips to Madison for farm advocacy.

Joyce enjoyed traveling, taking trips all over the United States and some trips to Germany and Russia. She liked to play cards, go bowling, do artwork, gardening and talking politics. Most of all, Joyce loved to spend time with family and friends.  

Joyce is survived by her children; Rita Dahms of Red Wing, MN, Linda Glampe of Plum City, Bill of Plum City, Dan (Stella) of Silver City, NM, Clare (Peggy) of Prentice, Bob (Rachel) of Plum City, Rodney (Donna) of Inver Grove Heights, MN, Leslie of Eau Claire, Larry of Minneapolis, MN and Dave of Hastings, MN, 23 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, two sisters; Edith Waldvogel of Maplewood, MN and Jean Hovde of Ellsworth, a son-in-law; Joe Fisher of Durand, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband; James, one daughter Diane Fisher and four brothers; Dick, Glen, Earl and Roy Ebensperger.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, February 21, 2015 at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Durand. Pastor Dan Richardson will officiate. Burial will be in the St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call from 10:00 AM until the time of services at the funeral home on Saturday.

    I only knew Joyce from the Plum City Care Center. She was such a joy to visit with and always knew the songs that Laura Kadlec played on the piano. Her pleasant ways and wonderful smile made it fun to be with her. My sympathy is with the family.
