Michael Patrick Kainz

Michael Patrick Kainz, age 72 of Menomonie entered his eternal rest Sunday, December 21, 2014 at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire with his family by his side.

Pat was born in the Farm Hill area, Elmwood, WI, to Louie and Esther (Fedderly) Kainz.  During his teenage years he worked on his aunt and uncle's mink ranch in Hayward, WI, saved his money he earned and said he was "richer than any of his friends."  He graduated from Elmwood High School in 1960.  After high school Pat served in the U.S. Navy traveling the world on USS Fremont.  He was honorably discharged in 1966.

Pat was married to Judy Bauer on August 7, 1965.  They lived in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area for eleven years where Pat & Judy were active in their Parish and several organizations and clubs.  Pat was employed as a machinist at Milwaukee Machine Products.  They moved back home to Menomonie, Wisconsin in 1976.  He was employed at 3M in Menomonie for 24 years where he further developed his career and education. 

After retirement, in his spare time Pat not only enjoyed his part-time work for ten more years, he also loved being with family, traveling with family and friends, sports, sports statistics, reading, puzzles, cribbage and playing cards. He enjoyed breakfasts with former coworkers as well as a group of life-long friends. He looked forward to yearly hunting excursions with his brother Robert and friends for over 25 years. He was a devoted and active member of St. Joseph’s Parish and the Knights of Columbus.

Pat was a patient, kind, and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.  He had a strong appreciation and respect for nature and all living things.  Pat was patriotic and loved his country. 

He is survived by his wife Judy of 49 years, children Kimberly (David), Michelle, and Chad (Amy), five grandchildren Anna, Connor, Kira, Kaden and Carter, one brother Robert (Doris) and four sisters Margaret Galloway, Adele Kainz, Theresa Jane Eberhardy, Carol (Marty), nieces, nephews, many relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Joseph and Francis a sister Helen and a brother-in-law, Vernon Eberhardy.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM, Monday, December 29, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Menomonie.  Rev. Nathan Thainase will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Menomonie Veterans Honor Guard immediately following the service. Friends may call from 4-7 PM Sunday at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Menomonie and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

    Thinking of you in these difficult days. Kim, your dad was always a quiet, gentle presence. I remember numerous sleepovers with him watching his baseball games in the living room. I will never forget his face as he walked you down the aisle on your wedding day. Woodland Terrace has lost a great neighbor. Judy, Shelly, and Chad, please know you are all in my thoughts too. May your memories sustain you in the days to come.
