Joan M. Risler
Joan M. Risler age 82 of Menomonie, died Friday October 31, 2014 at The Neighbors of Dunn County with her family present.
Joan was born June 25, 1932 in rural Ellsworth, the daughter of Julius and Mary (Green) Huppert. She was the 15th child born in their family of 16. Joan married Richard “Dick” Risler on May 27, 1952. They farmed near Weston and then in Cornell. In June of 1962 they moved to the Village of Rusk, near Menomonie where they owned and operated Rusk Implement until they retired in 1985. They enjoyed traveling in their motorhome and spent winter months in Florida. They also enjoyed visiting relatives and friends in Wisconsin and Florida. In 1993, they purchased a home in a gated mobile park in Haines City, FL. Joan cared for Dick after he suffered a stroke in 1994. After Dick died in 2000, Joan continued to live in Florida until 2011. She moved from Florida to Iowa to an assisted living facility and then moved back to Menomonie in the fall of 2013.
Joan is fondly remembered for walking, crocheting afghans for her grandchildren, reading, playing bingo, cards and dominos.
Joan is survived by eight children, Jim (Lorie) of Colorado Springs, CO; Linda (Mark) Doherty of Boyden, IA; Catherine (Lou) Richardson of Carefree, AZ; Jan Risler and John (Denise) Risler both of Menomonie; Sandy (Duane) Apel of West Bend; F. Allen (Lisa) Risler of Trinity, TX; Chuck (fiancé Angie Rikli) Risler of Dodgeville; 16 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, one sister Leona Miller of Phoenix, AZ; a brother Chester Huppert of Ellsworth; sisters-in-law Helen Johnson of Elk Mound; Rosaline Huppert & Rosella Huppert both of Ellsworth; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, nine brothers and four sisters.
The family would like to thank the staff of The Neighbors of Dunn County for their care and compassion shown to Joan. The family prefers Memorials to The Neighbors of Dunn County.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday November 6, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Menomonie with Rev. John Mano officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery at a later date.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Wednesday at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Menomonie and one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
