Bernard L. Milliren
Bernard L. Milliren, age 90 of Arkansaw, died Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at the Oakview Care Center in Durand with his family by his side.
Bernard was born on April 12, 1924 on the Milliren family farm in Arkansaw. He was the son of Fred and Mary (Brenner) Milliren. Bernard attended the Plummer Country School, graduated from Arkansaw High School and attended UW-Stout. In 1945, he returned home to farm on the family farm. Bernard married Darlene Weber on August 29, 1950 at St. Henry’s Church in Eau Galle. After marriage they continued to farm and raise their family in Arkansaw. Bernard was a charter member of the Pepin County Farm Management Club and served as an officer for many years. He sold the farm to his son, Dennis in 1986, but continued to farm until 2010.
Bernard served on the Pepin County Board for many years and served as the county chair. He was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Arkansaw, ushering, lecturing, singing in the choir and many other church activities. Bernard was a 4-H Leader for years, served on the County 4-H Board and never missed a fair until 2013. He served on the AMPI Board for years and was on the Resolution Committee. Bernard and Darlene did a lot of traveling across the country including a special trip to Florida and the Kennedy Space Center. He was a Packer, Badger and Brewer fan, in 1994 Bernard threw out the First Pitch at a Brewer game in County Stadium.
Bernard is survived by his wife of 64 years; Darlene, six children; Marcia (Patrick) Bauer of Durand, Steve (friend, Terri Krause) of Plum City, Dennis of Arkansaw, Kathy Weisenbeck (Mike) of Durand, Pat (Randy) Radle of Menomonie and Mary (Felix) Berger of Arkansaw, 13 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, one sister; Mary Jane (Bob) Singerhouse of Menomonie, two sisters-in-law; Shirley Milliren of Arkansaw and Cecelia Milliren of Plum City, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers; Claire, Martin, Roy and Giles and two sisters; Lucille Bechel and Marcella Glaus.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Arkansaw. Rev. Paul G. Czerwonka will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4-7 PM Tuesday at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Durand and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
