Thelma R. Weisenbeck
Thelma M. Weisenbeck, age 81 of Durand, died Monday, May 12, 2014 at the Homeplace in Mondovi.
Thelma was born on May 5, 1933 in the Town of Lima rural Durand. She was the daughter of Tom and Helen (Prissel) Sabelko. Thelma grew up in the Lima area and attended Sacred Heart School in Lima. Thelma worked as a nurse’s aide in the Mary Crest Hospital in Durand for several years before moving to the St. Benedict’s Hospital, where she worked for 15 years. She married Richard “Dick” Weisenbeck on May 19, 1953 at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Lima. After marriage, they lived in California for a short time while Dick finished his career in the Navy. They moved back to Durand area in 1955 where they continued to work and raise their family. Thelma took a job at Roger’s IGA as cashier for a period of time before taking her last job at the Security Financial Bank retiring in 2000. For the last 3 years, Thelma made her home at the Homeplace in Mondovi while battling her Alzheimer’s disease.
Thelma enjoyed spending time in her garden. She also liked canning, baking, dancing, walking, sewing, playing cards, watching basketball games and the Packers. Thelma was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Altar Society, taking care of funeral lunches for many years. In retirement, Thelma and Dick loved to travel, taking some special trips to Europe, Alaska and Navy reunions. Most of all, Thelma loved to spend time with family and friends.
Thelma is survived by her husband of 61 years; Dick, four children; Pat (Neil) McNaughton of Presho, SD, Karen (Cal) Weisenbeck-Lanzel and Gary (Rose), both of Wisconsin Rapids and Kelly (Tim) Brunkow of Barron, seven grandchildren; Laura, Jed (Jen), Brooke (Dustin), Garret, Carley, Lexi and Jada, five great grandchildren; Noah, Izzy, Sophie, Jonah and Gabe, one brother; Galen (Ellen) Sabelko of Eleva, three sisters; Betty (Frank) Albarado of Webster, Teresa (Jim) Bilderback of Birchwood and Rita (Randy) Brunner of Eau Claire, one brother-in-law; Floyd Hubbard of Rice Lake, sister-in-law; Noreen Sabelko of Webster, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, one brother; Bob Sabelko and one sister; Milly Hubbard.
Funeral Services will be 11:30 AM Friday, May 16, 2014 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Durand. Rev. Eric Linzmaier will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery at a later date. Friends may call from 4-8 PM Thursday at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Durand and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. A Rosary Service will be held at 3:30 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.
