Lorin J. Anibas

Lorin J. Anibas

Lorin J. Anibas age 90 of Eau Galle died Wednesday April 30, 2014 at the Plum City Care Center in Plum City.

Lorin was born November 12, 1923 in Buffalo County, he was the son of John and Rose (Brion) Anibas. As a young child he grew up in the Lima and Arkansaw areas.  As a young adult he moved with his family to a farm near Eau Galle where he has farmed all his life.  Lorin married Rosella “Sally” Bauer September 25, 1951 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church-Lima, rural Durand.  After marriage they continued farming and raised their family in Eau Galle.  Lorin and Sally retired from the farm in 1984 and moved closer to Eau Galle.  In 2010, Lorin and Sally moved to the Plum City Care Center.

Along with farming in those early years, he logged for Schlosser’s Lumber.  Those young years, and for most of his life, when he wasn’t working, he could be found fishing or hunting with his buddies.  In fact, when it came to deer hunting, the only week he missed going “up north” was the year he and Sally married because, as he said, he already had his “dear”!  His love of the outdoors made him an early member of the Eau Galle Sportsmen’s Club and the NRA.

When Lorin and Sally married, they took over the rental farm; they purchased the farm in 1960.  From sun-up to sun-down, he worked on the farm and made a living from the land to support the family he deeply cherished.  When he “retired,” he continued to help out on the family farm.

Besides hunting, fishing, and farming, he enjoyed spending time with his family “up north.” Later years found Lorin traveling with Sally (and sometimes friends and children) to Hawaii, Washington State, North Dakota, Florida, Missouri, and Minnesota.

Through the good and the bad, Lorin and Sally shared a strong faith through St. Henry Catholic Church in Eau Galle.  Lorin was an active member in the Holy Name Society and he ushered every Sunday.  His children knew he was sitting in the back of that Church keeping an eye on them!  Saying the evening Rosary, as a family, was a ritual before calling it a day.  In retirement, they attended daily Mass.   Lorin led his family by example!   You only needed to look at his face to see the joy, love, and pride that he felt for his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Faith, Family, Farming, and Friends built a strong man inside and out. That strength saw him through some physical challenges, including Parkinson’s, a broken neck, and a nearly fatal lung infection. Thumbs-up became his signal to us all!   Recently, he watched as an Assisted Living addition was being added to the Plum City Care Center where he knew his “dear” Sally could live when he was no longer with us.  Lorin was ready.  With his eyes on Heaven, surrounded by family, Lorin found his wings after receiving Last Rites from Father Hoeser.

There is no doubt that he will be missed by the many people that his life touched!

Lorin is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sally; daughter Mary (Tim) Dessereau of Mayville; sons John (Julie); Don (Shelly) and Bob (Fiancé Sharon Schroeder) all of Eau Galle; and daughter Rose (Joe) Smith of Roberts;  grandchildren Michelle (Dominic) Carloni; Michael Frommholz, Zack (Katie) Anibas; Evan (Tessa Bauer) Anibas; CJ (Carrie) Anibas; Karley (Cody) Johnson; Calli Anibas; Matthew Smith; Trenten Smith; Alivia Smith; Ellie Smith; 10 great grandchildren; three sisters, Emma Brownell of Eau Claire; Marie (Bill) Gruber of Durand; Iva Knudtson of New Berlin; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Rose; two brothers, Raymond and John Jr.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday May 5, 2014 at St. Henry Catholic Church in Eau Galle with Rev. Jerry Hoeser officiating.

I am the Pittman twin's grandmother and I know how much they enjoyed working on son Don's farm. I went to Mass in Eau Galle on weekday mornings and saw Lorin and Sally there also. There were a few mornings when he got ill at Mass. And I remember seeing them at Econo Foods also. Sally, you and the family have my deepest sympathy. He was truly a great man and loved by all. May he rest in peace!

It is 7 P.M. Sunday and I just heard of the passing away of Lorin. I cannot make it to the funeral home but want to give my condolences to the family. I got to know both Sally and Loren after I moved to Eau Galle through the Eau Galle Sportsmens Club. Loren always had a twinkle in his eye and a smile when I talked and asked questions about the club as he had been a member from the start. Sally and Loren raised a great family who also have contributed much to the little town of Eau Galle.
