Charles J Sabelko Jr
Charles J. Sabelko Jr., age 86 of Durand, died Thursday, January 23, 2014 at his home in Durand with his family by his side.
Charles was born on December 27, 1927 in Lima Township of rural Durand. He was the son of Charles and Julia (Bauer) Sabelko Sr. Charles grew up on the family farm in Lima and attended Sacred Heart Schools. In September of 1952, Charles was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Korea until being Honorably Discharged in August of 1954. Charles married Elaine Klein on April 12, 1958 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Plum City. After marriage they lived in the Durand area where they farmed and raised their family. In 1989, Charles retired from farming and moved to a home up the road from their farm, where he remained the rest of his life. Besides farming, Charles also drove school bus and hauled milk.
Charles liked watching the Packers, playing cards, hunting and fishing with his brothers. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Charles was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who will be dearly missed. He was a lifelong member of Holy Rosary Church and a member of the Durand American Legion Post #181.
Charles is survived by his wife of 55 years; Elaine, 10 children; Lori (Joe) Danzinger of Mondovi, Lonnie (Karen) of Durand, Amy (Jodie) Winter of Durand, Ann (Todd) Prissel of Durand, Jill (Tony) Gruber of Meridean, Sarah (Randy) Peterson of Plum City, Paul (Jill) of Elmwood, Carl (Laura) of Eau Claire, Kris (Becky) of Eau Galle and Brad (Sarah) of Ella, 29 grandchildren, six great grandchildren, one brother; Ralph (Janice) of Durand, three sisters; Kathleen Kelly of Menomonie, Dorothy (Don) Klein of Durand and Juliana (Herb) Tschumperlin of Plum City, two sisters-in-law; Marlene Sabelko of Menomonie and Lucy Ann Sabelko of Durand, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers; Edward Sr., Hubert and William, brother-in-law; Bill Kelly and two sisters-in-law; Blondie Sabelko and Betty Sabelko.
