Irma R. King, age 88 of Plum City

Died: May 2, 2008 at the Chippewa Valley Hospital in Durand.
Irma was the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Smith) Hartung. She attended country schools and graduated from Arkansaw High School. After high school she worked at the old Eau Claire Hospital. Irma married Jacob Wiskerchen November 30, 1939 at Arkansaw. Jacob died in a mine cave in November of 1940. Together, Irma and Jacob had one daughter, Lorelee.
Irma married Bernard King July 20, 1942. Bernard previously had one son, John. Together Irma and Bernard had three children, Gary, Carol and Connie. After marriage Irma and Bernard farmed in Mondovi and they later moved to a farm in the Plum City and Maiden Rock area. Irma was a homemaker and also worked at the TAD Hospital/Nursing Home, in Plum City. She later worked at the Pepin County Nursing Office in homecare and for the WIC program. Her husband Bernard passed away December 14, 1975.
Irma was a very independent person and lived in her own country home for over 30 years. She moved to the Brookside Apartments in Plum City in April 2006 and enjoyed the friendliness of her neighbors and nightly card games. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Irma is survived by two daughters, Lorelee (Dale) Binkowski of Plum City, Connie Manor of St. Paul, MN, one son, Gary (Karen) King of Magnolia, TX, one stepson, John (Thelma) King of Fort Madison, IA, 14 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter,grandson Mark Manor who passed away May 3, 2008, two sisters, Ethel (Paul) King of Pepin and Florence “Babe” (Arnold) Gilles of Madera, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, one daughter, Carol, two grandsons, three brothers and one sister.
