Delbert H "Coot" Wenger

Delbert H. “Coot” Wenger, age 80 of Alma, died Saturday, January 18, 2014 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Wabasha, MN.

Coot was born on January 5, 1934 in the Township of Alma. He grew up on the family farm in Mud Creek and graduated from Alma Area Schools. After high school, Coot enlisted into the U.S. Navy where he was stationed on a ship state-side and he was Honorably Discharged in 1956. Coot returned to Alma where he started his career at Dairyland Power Plant in 1957. He married Nancy Fuoter in Alma. After marriage, Coot continued his career at the power plant where he retired as an Operations Supervisor in 1993. After retirement, Coot continued to live in Alma, where he remained the rest of his life.

Coot enjoyed fishing and hunting and he loved to spend time with family and friends.

Coot is survived by his children; Paul, Holly (Tom) Brakke and Marty, all of Alma, three grandchildren; Alex (Jeff), Alyssa and Amy, one sister; Marge Smith of Pepin, one brother; LaVere Wenger of Alma, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, one son; Todd and one brother; Walter “Bud” Wenger.

Private family services will be held in the spring.
