Alexander "Alec" B Kirby
Alexander ("Alec") Beam Kirby, age 51, of Menomonie, passed away Monday, January 13 at the Mayo Clinic Health System-Red Cedar, in Menomonie.
Alec was born in Royal Oak, Michigan, the son of Donald and Rebecca (Beam) Kirby. Alec attended Muskingum College in Ohio while working in the summer as a day camp counselor at First Presbyterian Church in Detroit. Alec went on to earn M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from George Washington University in American History. In 1991 he joined the faculty of the Social Science department at the University of Wisconsin Stout, where he achieved the rank of Associate Professor. 2013 saw the publication of his book, Harold E. Stassen: The Life and Perennial Candidacy of the Progressive Republican (with David Dalin and John Rothman). During 2013 he served on the Dunn County Board of Supervisors.
He is survived by his wife Mary Ellen, his mother and stepfather Rebecca and Donald Chamberlain of Menomonie; his brother Kevin (Bo) Kirby of Cincinnati, OH and his nephew Nolan Kirby of Columbus, oH. He is preceded in death by his father, Donald Kirby in 2011
