Clarence E Bauer
Clarence E. “Spike” Bauer age 91 of Durand, died Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at his home in Durand with his family by his side.
Spike was born on February 4, 1922 on the home farm in the Town of Lima, rural Durand. He was the son of John and Rose (Pichler) Bauer. Spike grew up in the Lima area and graduated from Sacred Heart School in Lima. He worked on the home farm all of his life, taking over the farm from his parents in 1953. Spike married Clara Shaw on August 19, 1953 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Durand. After marriage they continued to farm and raise their family in the Town of Lima. In 1984, Spike retired from farming but continued to live on the farm until moving to the City of Durand in 2010, where he remained the rest of his life.
Spike enjoyed cracking butternuts, gardening, fishing, hunting and playing cards. He played softball on the Club 10 team in his younger years and enjoyed just going for rides. He liked being social with people and sharing a joke. Most of all, Spike loved to spend time with his family.
Spike is survived by his wife of 60 years; Clara, his children; Diane (Keith) Weisenbeck of Durand, Dennis Bauer of Bloomington, MN, Janice (Doug) Doughty of River Falls and Carol (Robert) Kallstrom of Arkansaw, nine grandchildren; Kate, Ben (Paula), Christine, Stacy, Emily, Amber, Alison, Scott and Tyler, one great grandson; Phillip, two sisters; Beatrice Brunner of Durand and Mildred (Bud) Miller of Rice Lake, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister; Arlene Schuh.
