Emma L Bauer
Emma L. Bauer, age 87 of Durand, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at the Plum City Care Center in Plum City with her family by her side.
Emma was born on June 6, 1926 in Durand. She was the daughter of William E. and Lucy (Hayden) Bauer. She grew up in the Town of Lima and attended Sacred Heart School. After school, Emma worked for Dr. Scott in Eau Claire for several years. Emma married Benedict L. Bauer on June 10, 1947 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Lima. After marriage, they continued to live in the Town of Lima, where Emma and Ben raised their family. In 1967, Emma and Ben started the Sears Catalog Store in Durand, which she ran for several years. She was an active member at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, teaching CCD for many years, helping with the fish dinners and was active with the Altar Society. For the last 8 years, Emma has been a resident of the Plum City Care Center.
Emma enjoyed music, singing, sewing, cooking, canning, gardening, playing cards and in her younger years she liked to go roller skating. Most of all she loved to spend time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren.
Emma is survived by her children; Jeff (Kathy) of Rock Falls, Les (Rita), Kevin, Brent (Christine), Kelly (DJ) Pophal, all of Durand, eight grandchildren; Lisa, Keith, Neil, Dawn, Adam, Aric, Emily and Kailyn, 12 great grandchildren, three sisters; Aileen (Bill) Wayne of Durand, Esther (Steve) Alf of Eau Claire, Sr. Marian Bauer of LaCrosse, two brothers; Edwin (Donna) Bauer of Rock Falls, Arnold (Marian) Bauer of Elmwood, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband; Ben, two sisters; Rosina Brantner and Helen Sweeney, two brothers; Hubert and Wilfred Bauer.
