Kenneth J. Garske age 77 of Menomonie, died unexpectedly Monday September 16, 2013 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.

Ken was born July 28, 1936 at home in Farmington, Wisconsin. He was the son of Clemence and Rose (Niedermire) Garske, but grew up in New Richmond. Ken attended Immaculate Conception Elementary School and graduated from New Richmond High School in 1956. Ken worked at several jobs after high school before being drafted into the U.S. Army in May of 1959 and served until 1963. Ken married Suzanne Salmon July 25, 1959. After marriage, Ken worked for 3M in St. Paul MN for several years before moving to the Ridgeland area to live his dream as a farmer for 26 years. Besides farming, Ken enjoyed being out in the nature of his farm where he instilled the love of nature, land and animals to his children. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and tinkering in his shop. After farming, Ken returned to work for 3M in Menomonie where he retired in 1999.

During his retirement years, he discovered his talent for woodworking, and his craftsmanship which can be seen at several area businesses and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

Ken is survived by his wife, Sue of 54 years; five children, Mona (Scott) Miller of Elkhorn; Lawrence of Jackson; Dolly (Robert) Lee of Wheeler; Heidi (David) Kile and Heather (Justin) Sorenson both of Menomonie; 15 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; eight sisters, Regina Quist of Osceola; Eva Rice of St. Paul, MN; Donna Bauer of North St. Paul, MN; Frances (Ordell) Asmus of Wilmar, MN; Helen (Peter) Riley of Joplin, MO; Ann (Lloyd) Scobey of Hudson; Rosemary(David) Carlson of Cedar Rapids, IA; Christine (Charles) Krueger of Hatley; a brother, Raymond (Joan) Garske of New Richmond; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Ken is preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Kenneth Garske; a sister Marion Germain and a brother Ambrose Garske.
