William G "Doc" Kasten
William "Doc"G. Kasten, DDS age 94 of Menomonie, formerly of Elmwood, died Wednesday July 17, 2013 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Menomonie.
Doc was born April 26, 1919 in Milwaukee, the son of William A. and Angeline (Riley) Kasten. Doc grew up in Milwaukee, graduated from St. John's Cathedral High School and graduated from Marquette University with a BA degree in Business Administration. Doc served in the U.S. Army during WWII where he was stationed in the Aleutian Islands. After the service, Doc married Margaret Mary "Marge" Conway November 9, 1946 in Sauk City, WI. Doc then returned to Marquette University where he received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery. In 1955, they settled in Elmwood where Doc opened his dental practice and they raised their family. Doc operated his dental practice for 43 years retiring in 1998. In December of 1999, they moved to Spring Valley where they lived until 2008 and then moved to River Falls Assisted Living. In January of 2013, they moved to the Comforts of Home in Menomonie where he has remained the rest of his life.
Doc was one of the original committee members that started the Heritage of Elmwood Nursing Home and served on the Board of Directors for many years. Doc also served on the Elmwood Village Board for several years. He enjoyed playing cards, golfing, fishing, antique cars and trips to Las Vegas, most of all; he enjoyed spending time with his family.
The family would like to thank the care givers of Comforts of Homes for the wonderful care given to Doc.
Doc is survived by his children, Kathleen Schwartz of Rochester, MN and Michael (Ruth) Kasten of Menomonie; four grandchildren, Peter (Shari) Schwartz, Nicholas (Mary) Schwartz, Jeanne (Christopher) Lindsay and Julie (Damian) Kastbauer; 10 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife Marge in February 13, 2013
