Carol T Weishapple
Carol T. Weishapple age 101 of Durand, died Friday January 4, 2013 at the Oakview Care Center in Durand.
Carol was born December 25, 1911 in Menomonie. She was the daughter of Arthur and Minnie (Meixner) Maher. Carol grew up in Durand attended St. Mary's Grade School and graduated from Durand High School in 1929. During her younger years she and her sister Cleo, performed at stage plays, musicals and provided the music for the silent movies in the early 1920's, Cleo on the piano, and Carol on the violin. After high school Carol worked as a secretary for Frank Carpenter Insurance until her marriage to Wilbur Weishapple in 1937. When Wilbur was called to active service in 1944, Carol joined her husband in Washington D.C, where they lived during the war where she worked at an Insurance Company. After the service, Carol and Wilbur returned to Durand. Later in life, after raising two daughters, she returned to work as an accountant for Walter Gilles Insurance and later as a secretary for M. H. Smith Insurance. Over the years she helped hundreds of people with their health insurance claims. She loved meeting and helping people and sorely missed her job when she retired in 1985.
Carol loved her home, her flowers, including the huge azalea plants that she raised to be flowering plants. She loved to spend time with her family and with the addition of a grandson in 1969, her life became fuller and richer with the love and pride she felt for her grandson. In 1999, Carol welcomed her grandson’s wife, and later three wonderful great grandchildren.
Carol is survived by her daughter Cathy Weishapple of Minocqua; son-in-law, Henry Schwartz of Eau Claire; a grandson, James (Ann) Schwartz of Fox Lake; three great grandchildren, Payton, Madison and Riley and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Wilbur in 1989, her daughter Mary Schwartz in 2002; a sister Cleo Meili and a brother Jack Maher.
