Wilfred Bauer
Wilfred H. "Willie” Bauer, age 88 of Durand, formerly of Eau Galle, died Saturday, December 29, 2012 at the Chippewa Valley Hospital in Durand.
Willie was born on October 5, 1924, on the Bauer family farm in the Town of Lima, rural Durand. He was the son of Joseph A. and Rose (Danzinger) Bauer. He grew up in the Lima area and attended Sacred Heart Catholic School in Lima. After school, he worked on the family farm for several years. Willie married Margaret A. Komro on June 26, 1951 at Scared Heart Church in Mondovi. After marriage, they lived in various places before moving to Eau Galle. Willie worked at Brunner Seed, Wayne Baier; Wayside Acres Farm, Gunnison Insulation, Jerry Baier & Sons and St. Henry's Catholic Church as custodian until retiring in 2011 due to his health. In March of 2012, Willie moved to the Assisted Living of Durand, where he remained the rest of his life.
Willie enjoyed fishing, playing cards, riding bike, roller skating and dancing. He was an alter server for many years for masses and funerals at St. Henry's Catholic Church in Eau Galle. Most of all, Willie loved to spend time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Willie is survived by his nine daughters; Julie (Jeff Ableidinger) Bauer of Durand, Loret (Kevin) Retzloff of Colfax, Joan (Pit) Plumer of Durand, Janet (Ed) Fisher of Colfax, Lynette (Tim) Bates of Elmwood, Lori (Earl Frohn) Hofacker of Eau Claire, Connie (David) Karshbaum of Durand, Mary (Dan) Wieser of Maiden Rock, Brenda (Rick) Wolf of Elmwood, four sons; Roger (Mary) of Menomonie, Daniel (Audrey) and Greg (Kristi), both of Durand and Paul (Tess) of Tokyo, Japan, 34 grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 11 step great grandchildren, seven step great-great grandchildren, three brothers; Lewis "Lud" (Lois), Arnie (Darlene) and Pat (Patty), all of Durand, one sister; Sister Rosalia Bauer of Beloit, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife; Margaret, one grandson; Brian LaPean, four brothers; Lawrence, Joe, Ed and Leonard Bauer, two sisters; Catherine Bilderback and Florence Hayden.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
