Ethel M Smith
Ethel Marie Smith age 98 of Eau Galle, passed away on Friday December 28, 2012 at the Heritage of Elmwood Nursing Home in Elmwood surrounded by her family.
Ethel was born February 24, 1914 at home on Maple Ridge, Pepin County. She was the daughter of George and Rose (Harmon) Heller. She attended Maple Ridge one room school, graduated valedictorian in 1932 from Arkansaw High School and graduated from River Falls College in 1936. Following graduation she taught math and science in Winter Wisconsin. Ethel married Walter E. Smith September 14, 1940 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Arkansaw. They lived most of their married lives in Eau Galle. Ethel worked along with her husband as beekeepers. Ethel loved to read, knit, and play cards and tri-ominos.
Ethel is survived by her children, Rose Mary (Bill) Stoll of Menomonie and John G. (Shirley) Smith of Eau Galle; grandchildren, Larry (Mary) Stoll, Robert (Kelly) Stoll, Sharon Stoll, Angela (C.J.) Brantner, Susan (Toby) Adams, Paula Smith, Melissa (Scott) Johnson, Rebecca (J.R.) Dachel, Amanda (Paul) Glaus, Laura (Dan) Berger; 15 great grandchildren, four step great grandchildren and four step great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Walter of 54 years and a sister, Dorothy Heller.
The family would like to thank the Heritage of Elmwood for their loving care these past 2 ½ years.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be directed to the Arkansaw United Methodist Church.
