Wesley C. Schultz age 95 of Menomonie,
Died Friday November 16, 2012 at the American Lutheran Home in Menomonie.
Wes was born December 5, 1916 on the farm in the Township of Red Cedar, Dunn County. He was the son of Otto and Sadie (Burns) Schultz. Wes attended Lyndale Country School and in 1934 graduated from the Dunn County School of Agriculture. He stayed on the home farm until 1943. Wes served in the U.S. Army during WW II, serving with the Persian Gulf Command along with 17 other men from Dunn County. Wes attended a two year agricultural program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison from 1946 to 1948. From 1948 to 1954 Wes was a Herdsman for the Racine County Institution Farm. From 1955 to 1981 he was employed at the John Deere Tractor Works in Waterloo, IA. Wes married Alvira Grutt June 9, 1956 in Menomonie. After retirement they returned to Menomonie in 1984. Wes and Alvira spent their winters from 1982 to 1988 Texas where they enjoyed spending time with friends and square dancing. Wes served on the Menomonie Sesquicentennial Committee and the Veterans Memorial Committee and was a sponsor for the “Stories Behind the Bricks”. Wes was instrumental in starting the “Iron Creeker” Club.
Wes is survived by five nieces, Barbara (David) Zirkelbach of Racine; Linda (Darrell) Strand of Fergus Falls, MN; Patricia Emerson of Poplarville, MS; Nancy (Tryn) Suckow of Menomonie; Marcia (Ron) Finder of Knapp; several great nieces and nephews; a brother-in-law, Merlin (Lorraine) Grutt of Menomonie; a sister-in-law, April (Dallas) Chryst of Menomonie.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Alvira in 2011, two brothers, Walter & Willard; a sister Marjorie Pechmiller-Schroeder.
