Elizabeth A "Betty" Schlough
Elizabeth “Betty” A. Schlough, 88, of Menomonie, died Thursday, October 18, 2012, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Menomonie.
She was born at home in the Town of Red Cedar, WI, on May 23, 1924, the daughter of John and Florence (Traxler) Breitzman.
Betty married Sam Schlough on November 22, 1947, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Menomonie. Sam died in 1981.
Betty was a long time member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Menomonie, Women of the Moose, Myrtle Werth Hospital Auxiliary, Dunn County Historical Society, and Dunn County Homemakers. She also was an active volunteer at Mayo Clinic Health System in Menomonie for several years.
Among Betty’s favorite hobbies were baking, knitting, and taking many photographs. Most recently, she took great pride in putting together her life history book.
She is survived by her son Steve (Kathy) Schlough of Menomonie; two grandchildren, Kristen Schlough and Scott Schlough, both of Menomonie; four sisters, Mary Dolan of Camas, WA, Alberta Kortness of Eau Claire, Rita Cigan of Stanley, Ann Dudash of Clearwater, FL; two sisters-in-law, Helen Gleason of New Richmond, and Peggy Breitzman of Eau Claire; and by numerous friends and family.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sam; and by two brothers, Jack and Bob.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct 27, 2012, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Menomonie with Rev. Thomas Krieg officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Rhiel Funeral Home in Menomonie and also one hour prior to Mass on Saturday. There will be a Rosary service at 5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
