Herbert H "Herb" Schneider
Herbert H. "Herb" Schneider, age 72 of Trego, formerly of Eau Galle, died peacefully from complications to pancreatic cancer on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth, MN, with his family by his side.
Herb was born on November 9, 1939 at home in the Cooks Valley, rural Colfax. He was the son of Frank and Anna (Geissler) Schneider. Herb grew up in Eau Galle he attended St. Henry's Grade School and graduated from Durand High School in 1957. Herb married "The Love of His Life" Barbara Kraft on April 28, 1962 at St. Mary's in Durand. Together they had 50 wonderful years of marriage. He worked at Safeway Foods in Durand until 1965. In 1965, Herb worked for the Eau Galle Cheese factory for two years. He than went to work for the Durand Hospital, where he worked for 40 years. In 1972, Herb and Barb purchased the tavern in Eau Galle and renamed it The Polecat's Den. They operated the tavern until selling it in 1975. In 2007, Herb retired from the hospital to "The Great North Woods."
Herb enjoyed deer hunting, shooting pool, playing softball with Polecat's Den, ice fishing and traveling around the world to visit family and friends. Most of all, Herb loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Herb is survived by his wife; Barb, children; Kimberly (Brad) Bauer of Eau Claire, Leonard (Ann) of Mondovi, Missy (Greg) Moore of Boyceville, Kandy (Bill) Wolf of Gig Harbor, WA, Frank "Bommer" (Lori) and Herb "Chopps" (Jennifer), both of Durand, 16 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, two brothers; Roland of Chippewa and Clarence of Eau Galle and one sister; Diane Weber of Trego, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Marvin and Jerry and one sister; Marge Weiss.
