Bernice M Wolterstorff
Bernice M. Wolterstorff, age 96 of Menomonie, formerly of Knapp, died peacefully Friday, October 12, 2012 at the Country Terrace Assisted Living in Menomonie surrounded by family.
Bernice was born on November 28, 1915 in Brown County Minnesota. She was the daughter of John and Sophia Fecker. She grew up in Brown County Minnesota and graduated from Springfield High School. Bernice met Clifford George Wolterstorff at the University Of Minnesota College Of Agriculture, where they graduated from in 1937. She married Clifford Wolterstorff on February 20, 1939 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Comfrey Minnesota. After marriage, they lived in various places throughout the country, where Bernice helped Cliff as a farm manager. Bernice also taught Home Economics in Port Wing. In 1953 they purchased a farm in Knapp, where they lived the rest of their lives.
Bernice was very active in 4-H all of her life as a member, agent and a general leader. She started three 4-H clubs here in Dunn County. Bernice and Cliff were also bee keepers for over 30 years. She was the State and Dunn County Honey Queen Chairperson, working to promote honey. They were honored as Bee Keepers of the Year in 1989 and received the Pioneer Award in 1997. Bernice and Cliff were Charter members of St. Luke's Parish in Boyceville where they were active members.
Bernice is survived by her children; Georgene (Gene) Hausner of Spring Green, Clifford John (Vicki Busch) of Eau Claire, Linda (Gayle) Bacon of Hancock and Michael (Robyn) of Knapp, nine grandchildren; Julie (Jon), Mary (Jeff), Louann, Geoffrey (Ashley), Todd (Jill), Laura, Tina, David and Heidi (Douglas), 13 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband; Clifford (1999), one sister; Catherine Hornick and one brother; Walter Fecker.
