Francis F "Fran" Prissel
Francis F. "Fran" Prissel, age 85 of Durand, died Monday, August 13, 2012 at the Mayo Clinic Health Systems-Eau Claire.
Fran was born on October 6, 1926 in the Town of Maxville, rural Buffalo County. He was the son of August and Mary (Schlosser) Prissel. Fran was drafted into the U.S. Army on May 22, 1952 and took basic training in Ft. Sill, OK. He served in Korea for a year, attained the rank of Sergeant and was honorably discharged on February 22, 1954. Fran married Edith Hurlburt on October 12, 1954 and to this union, five children were born. He was in partnership with his brother, Joe, in the Oliver Dealership and the Shell Station for nine years. Fran also worked as a foreman for the Durand Canning Company for 19 years and was a custodian for UW Stout before retiring on February 7, 1997. For the last years, Fran has been a resident of the Oakview Care Center in Durand, where he made many friends.
Fran loved his wife, his children and especially his grandchildren. He loved to cook, fish, tend his gardens and bake. Fran was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and was also a member of the Durand American Legion Post #181.
Fran is survived by his wife of 57 years, Edith; three children: Mike (Tina) and Jane (John) Winter, both of Durand and Chuck (Jonathan Timm)of New Richmond; daughter-in-law, Pat Prissel of Fall Creek, seven grandchildren: Matt (Sara), Mark (Fiancé Danielle), Shannon, Jimmy (Tracy), Jenna (Aaron), John III (Fiancé Avery) and Jacob; three great grandchildren: Ethan, Elaina and Chelsea; two sisters, Margaret Poeschel of Boyceville and Thelma Caturia of Menomonie, two sisters-in-law, Rose Prissel and Blanche Prissel, both of Durand, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, two sons, John and Jimmy, two sisters, Theresa Prissel and Laura Prissel, four brothers, Leonard, Wilfred, Joseph and August Jr.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Oakview Care Center for all the love and care they gave Fran over the last year and the staff at the Mayo Clinic Health Systems-Eau Claire, Luther Campus for the care and support over the last several of days.
