Gary G Bauer
Gary G. Bauer age 74 of Arkansaw, died peacefully in his chair on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at his home in Arkansaw after a courageous eight year battle with ALS "Lou Gehrig’s Disease."
Gary was born on November 17, 1937 in Arkansaw. He was the son of Edward C. and Fern (Grant) Bauer. Gary grew up in Arkansaw and graduated from Arkansaw High School. After high school, Gary attended and graduated from Dunn County Teacher's College, UW-Eau Claire and received his Master's Degree in education from Winona State University. Gary married Barbara "Jeanie" Olson on December 27, 1958 at St. Joseph's Church in Arkansaw. Gary taught in various places in Wisconsin before coming to the Durand School District, where he spent most of his 40 year career. In that time period, Gary spent time both as a elementary teacher and a elementary guidance counselor. Gary also taught Hunter's Safety Education for 35 years in Durand. In 1997 Gary retired from teaching.
Gary volunteered for Ducks Unlimited, Durand Sportsman Club, Durand Rod and Gun Club and various other organizations. He enjoyed ice fishing, playing cards, hunting, traveling, fishing, yard work, gardening, making many Blue Bird houses and helping people. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Gary is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jeanie, four children; Nick of Green Bay, Mike of Eau Claire, Kelly (Rod) Schultz of Holmen and Lori (Bob) Krings of Mondovi, two grandchildren; Travis (Lindsay) Krings of Denver, CO and Matthew Krings of Menomonie, one sister: Fay (Jim) Andrews of Schafer, MN, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Gordon Bauer and one nephew, Eric Andrews.
