Robert Schneider
Robert “Bob” Schneider 91 of Elmwood,
Passed away on April 20, 2012 after a short illness at the Heritage of Elmwood Nursing Home. Bob was born October 10, 1920 to Herman and Elizabeth (Heyer) Schneider Sr. in Big Grove Township, Keystone, IA. He was the youngest of nine children. He graduated from Keystone High School in 1938. Bob was baptized and confirmed on April 3, 1942 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Keystone, IA. He married Lorraine Hall (George and Edith Hall of Belle Plaine, IA) on May 16, 1946 at the St. John’s Lutheran Parsonage. They celebrated 66 years of marriage together. He began farming with his parents until entering the military service on May 12, 1945. His tour of duty in the US Navy was on the mine sweeper USS Revenge. Bob was a Motor Machinist’s Mate 3rd Class. Serving in the Pacific Ocean sweeping mine fields in the China Sea.
In 1957 Bob and Lorraine with their family moved to rural Elmwood, WI and bought a dairy farm. He farmed until 1991 when they moved to Elmwood. While farming, he also was a Rural Postal Carrier for the Elmwood Post Office from May 1975 to 1996 when he retired.
Bob was a faithful member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plum City and also a member of the Plum City American Legion Post #365. Among the many organizations he served on were Immanuel Lutheran Church Board; Past Post Commander Post #365; Farm Credit Bureau; FHA Board; life time member to Turners Club; a founding member of the Plum City Lions Club; a 4 -H leader for many years to the Waverly Wonders 4- H club; Plum City School Board; County School Board and the Federal Land Bank.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Plum City American Legion Post #365.
Bob is survived by his wife Lorraine and their four children. John (Barbara) Schneider of Plum City; James (Diane) Schneider of Elmwood; Dennis (Ramona) Schneider of Elmwood; Carol (Frank) Wirth of Spring Valley; 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and three brothers. One of his many loves in life was to spend time with family and friends. Bob enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowmobiling and a little wine making. His greatest love, though were his grandchildren and their spouses, and great grandchildren which he always had time for. Bob and wife Lorraine had a passion for them and their motto was “Let’s have fun and make some Memories”.
Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Friday April, 27, 2012 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plum City with Pastor Daniel Pfaffe officiating. Burial with military honors by the Plum City Legion Post #365, will be at the Union Cemetery, Plum City.
Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Elmwood and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
