Benedict L. Bauer, age 81 of Durand

Died: March 3, 2008 at the Plum City Care Center in Plum City, surrounded by his family.
Ben was the son of Albert and Mary Bauer. He was born and raised in the Town of Lima, Pepin County, rural Durand. Ben first started working at Clark’s Hatchery in rural Rock Falls. He then went to work for the Durand Produce Company and later became plant manager at Wabasha Egg Company. Ben married Emma Bauer June 10, 1947 at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church at Lima. In 1967 Ben and Emma started the Sears Catalog store in Durand and operated it for two years. Following the Sears store, Ben worked at Uniroyal Tire and Rubber Company for 20 years, retiring in 1988.

Ben is survived by his wife of 60 years, Emma, one daughter, Kelly (D.J.) Pophal of Durand, four sons, Jeff (Kathy) of Rock Falls, Lester (Rita), Kevin W. and Brent A. (Christine), all of Durand, eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren, four sisters, Veronica Caturia and Blanche Radle, both of Arkansaw, Joan Sweeney of Durand and Karen Rubesch of Eau Claire. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Jerome and one sister, Rita.
