Ethel E King
Ethel E. King age 89 of River Falls, formerly of Stockholm, died Sunday, March 4, 2012 at the Grace Health Care Center in River Falls with her family by her side.
Ethel was born on October 19, 1922 in Arkansaw. She was the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Smith) Hartung. Ethel grew up in the Arkansaw area and graduated from Arkansaw High School. After graduating she worked at Josten's Manufacturing in Eau Claire. Ethel married Paul King on July 24, 1944 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Arkansaw. After marriage, they farmed in Mondovi from 1952 until 1959 when they moved to Stockholm where they continued to farm. After selling the farm, Ethel worked at the St. James Hotel in Red Wing, MN for several years before retiring. In March of 2009, Ethel moved to River Falls, where she remained the rest of her life.
Ethel enjoyed playing cards, dancing, knitting, crocheting, fishing, going to the casino and cooking food for everyone. Most of all, Ethel enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Ethel is survived by her six children, Paul Jr. of Stockholm, Jean (Dean) Campbell of River Falls, Mary (Bill) Saylor of Nowthen, MN, Cheryl (Stan) Swenson of Lund, Gail (Mark) Kircher of Pepin and JoAnn Winger of Red Wing, MN, 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, one sister Florence "Babe" (Bud) Gilles of Madera, CA, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Paul, two sisters, Mildred Schuch and Irma King, three brothers, Willis, Irvin and Gerald Hartung.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Friday, March 9, 2012 at St. John's Catholic Church in Plum City. Rev. Paul G. Czerwonka will officiate. Burial will be in the Arkansaw French Cemetery in Arkansaw at a later date. Friends may call from 4-8pm Thursday at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Durand and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
