Mary Weiss
Mary Weiss, age 92, of Durand, died Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at her home in Durand.
Mary was born on October 26, 1919 in the Town of Waterville. She was the daughter of Anton and Nellie (Baier) Sam. Mary attended the Marble Grade School and graduated from the Arkansaw High School in 1937. Mary married Hubert Weiss on September 21, 1943 in Arkansaw. Mary worked for Safeway Packaging Plant in Durand for 29 years, retiring in 1980. Mary has been a resident of Durand since 1946. Since her retirement, Mary was an active advocate of elderly issues, serving on the WestCAP Board of Directors, Pepin County Council of Senior Citizens, Pepin County Senior Services Board, Pepin County Human Services, Age Advantage Area Agency on Aging, Wisconsin Coalition of Aging Groups and a Senior Statesman.
Mary was member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, a CCD teacher, member of the Altar Society and choir member. She was a past President of the Durand Women's Club and a member of the Red Hat Society. Mary also enjoyed doing needlework and was a huge fan of the Brewers and Packers.
Mary is survived by her son, Duane (Monica) of Norfolk, MA, daughter-in-law, Mary Lou Weiss of Seattle, WA, grandchildren, Craig (Noreen) Weiss of Sudbury, MA and Barbra Weiss of Seattle, WA, three great grandchildren, Samantha, Owen and William Weiss, two sisters-in-law, Erma Sam of Arkansaw and Margaret Sam of Madison, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Hubert (1980), son, Allen (1981), granddaughter, Jennifer Weiss and four brothers, Joseph, Wendall, Carl and Francis Sam.
