Lucille E. Hammond, age 92, of Menomonie, died Wednesday, February 1, 2012, at the Mayo Clinic Health Systems, Menomonie.

Lucille was born on April 15, 1919, in Rock Falls. She was the daughter of Theodore C. and Violet (Norrish) Richartz. Lucille grew up in Rock Falls until seventh grade when she moved with her family to Menomonie and graduated from Menomonie High School. After high school, Lucille attended Paul’s Beauty School in Minneapolis, MN. After working in the Twin Cities for four years, Lucille came back to Menomonie to manage the Modern Beauty Shop in downtown Menomonie. Lucille married Jack Hammond on January 28, 1944, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Menomonie. After marriage and raising her family, she returned to work at the Crystal Beauty Shop in Menomonie. She worked at the beauty shop until her retirement in 1972. Lucille and Jack volunteered their time washing dishes at St. Joseph’s School for many years.

Lucille was a very active member of St. Joseph’s PCCW. She also enjoyed going to Aquasize at the Best Western for many years. Lucille was a very avid sports fan, cheering loudly at her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. She was a great baker and cook and loved to prepare meals for family and friends. Lucille will be greatly missed by her family, friends and community.

Lucille is survived by her three sons, Patrick (Suzanne) of Eau Claire, Todd (special friend, Ernestine Vance) of Oelwein, IA and Ted (Penny) of Waseca, MN; two daughters, Connie (Tim) Stevens of Menomonie and Holly Hammond of Sedona, AZ; nine grandchildren, Katie Sue (Greg), Michael, Christopher (Stephanie), Scott (Brenda), Kari (Jarred), Quinn, Angela (friend Bryan), Heidi (Mike) and Jackie; eight great grandchildren; one sister, Leone Hanson of Charlotte, NC; one sister-in-law, Nira Richartz of Menomonie, as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jack (2003); two sisters, Jeanne McDonnell and Virginia Browne; one brother, Ted Richartz; one daughter-in-law, Deborah Hammond and two brothers-in-law, Alan McDonnell and Jerry Browne.
