Wayne D White
Wayne D. White, age 85 of Plum City, formerly of Hastings, MN, died Sunday, December 18, 2011 at the Plum City Care Center in Plum City.
Wayne was born on January 31, 1926 on the home farm in Maiden Rock. He was the son of Merton and Esther (Haglund) White. Wayne grew up in the Maiden Rock area, attended the 16th School near Lund and graduated from Maiden Rock High School. After school, Wayne joined the U.S. Army in 1944 and served stateside. He was honorably discharged in 1946. Wayne married Elaine Shelstad on November 22, 1952. After marriage, Wayne worked for the hardware store in Spring Valley before moving to Hastings, MN where he worked at Primus TV shop in Red Wing, MN. Wayne retired from Carlson's Sporting & Appliance in Red Wing, MN in 1989. After the passing of his wife, Elaine in 1996, Wayne moved to Plum City, where he remained the rest of his life.
Wayne loved to play cards, go golfing, fishing, bowling, woodworking, gardening and traveling with friends. He was a member of the Plum City American Legion Post #365. Most of all, Wayne enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Wayne is survived by his children, Bruce (Cheryll) of Hugo, MN, Barry (Adele) of Plum City and Becky (Brian) Skog of Cottage Grove, MN, nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren, one brother, Laverne (Virginia) White of Plum City, one sister, Joyce "Ducky" Schultz of Minneapolis, MN, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Elaine, one grandson, Merton Jacob White, two brothers, Russell and Merlin White, two sisters, Harriet Kahabka and Violet Olson and a best friend, Gordon Rothe.
