Clara M Detwiller
Clara M. Detwiller age 102 formerly of Elk Mound,
Died: Monday February 25, 2008 at Dove Health Care in Eau Claire.
Clara was born July 19, 1905 in the Township of Lucas, Dunn County. She was the daughter of Charles and Lucy (Haffelder) Brehm. Clara grew up in that community and attended St. Joseph’s Elementary School in Menomonie, and also graduated from Dunn County Normal. She taught in the rural elementary schools in the Menomonie area for several years. Clara married William Mousel June 4, 1930. After marriage they farmed in the Farm Hill area of Elmwood before moving to the Elk Mound area in 1942. Clara and Bill operated the Black &White Bar for a few years, until it burned. As a result of the fire,Clara and Bill began building their own bar across the road. During the construction, Bill died suddenly. Clara managed to finish building the bar and owned and operated Clara’s Bar and raised her five children. Clara operated the bar for 35 years. After she sold the bar she built her retirement home just north of the bar. Clara enjoyed traveling, crocheting, ceramics and spending time with her family. For the past five years she has resided at Dove Health Care in Eau Claire.
Clara’s family would like to thank the staff of Dove Health Care for the love and care that Clara received while residing at Dove.
Clara is survived by two sons, Harold Mousel of Anacortes, WA; Eugene (Ching) Mousel of Tacoma, WA; two daughters, Marion Curry of Eau Claire; Patricia (Terry) Pottratz-Wiseman of Dunnellon, FL; a daughter-in-law, Joanne Mousel of Eau Claire; 20 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, William in 1948; a son Roger in 1986; a sister Evelyn Zimmer; five half brothers; a great grandson Scott Paap; a son-in-law, Roger Curry; a daughter-in-law, Pinkey Mousel.
