Glen D Raethke
Glen D. Raethke age 80 of Big Hill, rural Pepin, passed away of Friday, July 22, 2011 at the Pepin Manor in Pepin.
Glen was born on May 4, 1931 in Porcupine, rural Pepin County. He was the son of Clinton and Mildred (Seng) Raethke. Glen grew up in Pepin and graduated from Pepin High School. He worked with his dad on the farm. Glen was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1956 and served during peacetime in Europe and was honorably discharged in 1958. Glen married Myrna Kane on November 7, 1959 at St. John’s in Plum City. After marriage, they moved to St. Paul for several years where he worked as a shipping clerk at Webb Publishing. In 1962 they moved to the home farm on Big Hill where he took over for his father. Glen moved his family 1967 to their current residence. In 1980 Glen and his family incorporated the business as R Green Acres where they continue to operate today. Glen was well known locally for selling bulls and was very proud of the herd that he developed. In his later years, Glen enjoyed showing the farm to visitors from all over world.
Glen loved sports, especially baseball; he was a life long Chicago Cubs Fan. Glen also loved to play baseball, playing on organized teams most of his life. He enjoyed cribbage, croquet, bowling, horseshoes, hunting and fishing. In his later years, Glen joined the Pepin Lions Club, went for coffee at “Auth University” and played cards with his Lions’ buddies on Wednesdays. Glen was a people person and loved to spend time with them, especially his family and wife of over 50 years, Myrna.
Glen is survived by his wife, Myrna, his children, Jeff (Michele), Jon (Julie), both of Pepin, Peggy (Steve) Weber of Osceola, Chuck (Lisa) and Carrie Raethke, both of Pepin and Greg (Erin) of Waukesha, 14 grandchildren, Maggie, Laura, Jacob, Cody, Casey, Carson, Jessi, Matt, Ellie, Charlie, Claire, Chloe, Joe and James, one great granddaughter, Morgan, one brother, Howard (Margie) Raethke of Kenosha, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his two brothers, Roy and Wayne and two sisters, Dorothy Swanson and Betty Westberg.
