Josephine M. Weiss, age 92 of Durand, died Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at the Chippewa Valley Hospital in Durand with her family at her side.

Josephine was born on March 19, 1919 in the Town of Lima, rural Durand. She was the daughter of Matthew and Julia (Prissel) Brunner. Josephine grew up in Lima and attended Sacred Heart School in Lima. Josephine married William Weiss on June 27, 1937 at Holy Rosary Church in Lima. After marriage, they started farming in the Town of Albany, Pepin County, where they also raised their family. William passed away in February of 1986. After remaining on the farm for 10 years, Josephine moved into the senior apartments in Durand, where she remained the rest of her life.

Josephine had a great love of flowers; she had many beautiful flower beds around the farm. She also enjoyed crocheting; she always had many custom made pieces for the Holy Rosary Festival and many other people in the area. In her younger years, Josephine enjoyed dancing and playing cards. Most of all, she loved to spend time with family and friends.

Josephine is survived by her children, Marcia (John) Marsh of Motley, MN, Herb (Cindy) of Glendive, MT, Karen (Walter) Heuer of Canberra, Australia, Billy (Karen) of Mondovi and Ron (Connie) of Durand, 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, one sister, Genevieve Hayden of Durand and one brother, Anthony Brunner of Nelson, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William, one grandson, Brent Heuer, two sisters, Sr. Innocentia Brunner and Gertrude Lecheler, six brothers, Lawrence, Matt, Francis, Julius, Cyril and Amandus Brunner.

It was Josephine’s wishes that the family will have a private family service that will be held with a burial in the Holy Rosary Cemetery in Lima.
