Grant C Styer
Grant C. Styer age 98 of Menomonie,
Died: Friday March 11, 2011 at the Dunn County Health Care Center in Menomonie.
Grant was born March 18, 1912 in the Township of Lucas, Dunn County, rural Menomonie. He was the son of Sylvester and Emma (Lehman) Styer. Grant attended the Maple District #2 grade school and St. Joseph’s Catholic School. He graduated from the Dunn County Aggie School-short course. Grant also attended night classes in auto mechanics, welding and brazing at the Stout Institute. He did further short course work in animal breeding problems.
Grant married Marie Bates from rural Elmwood on May 25, 1938. They had one daughter, Lorraine. Grant and Marie farmed in the Town of Lucas on the same farm where grant was born, until 1980 when they retired and moved to Menomonie. While farming, Grant and Marie raised registered polled Jersey cattle which in 1976 became the highest milk producing Jersey herd in Wisconsin. In 1976, they sold the “famed” herd to buyers from fives states and a bull to a breeder from India. During his retirement, Grant also worked part time for Stanton-Rhiel Funeral Home for 22 years. Grant was a member of both the American and Wisconsin Jersey Cattle Clubs. He was a lifetime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was recently recognized as being the oldest and longest continuous member. Grant joined the Knights of Columbus at the age of 19 and has been a member for over 75 years. He was a Past President of the Holy Name Society.
Grant is survived by his daughter, Lorraine Styer-Sedahl of Menomonie; three grandchildren, Larry Sedahl of Denver, CO; Rick Sedahl and Carol (Bill) Lamey both of Havre, MT; two great granddaughters, Brandi and Paige; five great grandsons, Christopher, Joey, Grant, Jacob and Josh; one great-great granddaughter, Alexie.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Marie Feb. 21, 2010; a brother Lloyd; three sisters, Leona Knippel, Emily Webb, and Grace Brehm and two infant brothers.
