Lydia R. Lanzel age 93 of Durand,
Died: Thursday January 6, 2011 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.
Lydia was born November 17, 1917 on the farm in rural Tilden. She was the daughter of Henry and Matilda Geissler. She graduated from McDonald High School in Chippewa Falls and attended St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Wausau. After graduation she began her nursing career at University Hospital in Madison. Lydia married Carl W. Lanzel Sr. December 27 1941. During WW II Lydia worked as an Industrial Nurse in Chicago while Carl served in the U.S. Army. After WWII they moved to Bloomer for several years, then Wabasha and Nelson. In 1964 they moved to Durand. Lydia continued with her nursing career at Chippewa Valley Area Hospital retiring in 1982 as the Director of Nursing.
Lydia enjoyed cooking, family gatherings, watching sports and spending time with her family
Lydia is survived by her children, Carol (Walter) Rahrmann of Wabasha, MN; Carl Jr. (Marilyn) of Perth, Australia; Calvin (Karen) of Mazomanie; Curtiss (Amy) of Park City, UT; Charlot (Allen) Alleshaski of Loyal; 10 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; a brother Gene Geissler of South Bend, IN several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Carl in 1979, a daughter Cheryl in 1968; one sister and five brothers.
