Earl M Gilles
Earl M. Gilles age 89 of Elmwood,
Died: Sunday December 26, 2010 at the Heritage of Elmwood Nursing Home in Elmwood.
Earl was born April 4, 1921 in the Town of Union, rural Plum City. He was the son of Mathew and Lena (Krings) Gilles and grew up in the Plum City community and graduated from Plum City High School in 1939. Earl served in the U. S. Air Force during WW II. After the service Earl attended the University of Minnesota-School of Pharmacy. He married Lorraine McRoberts April 24, 1948 in Plum City. After completing his degree and apprenticeship, Earl purchased Tanner’s Rexall Drug Store in Elmwood in 1952. Earl owned and operated Gilles Pharmacy in Elmwood for many years until selling the business in 1983.
Earl has served on both the Elmwood School Board, and Village of Elmwood Board. He was an active member of the Elmwood Rod & Gun Club for many years and was a member of the Crain-Ottman American Legion Post 207 of Elmwood. Earl and Lorraine were both active members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elmwood. Earl and Lorraine enjoyed traveling, in later years they enjoyed wintering in Texas and Florida. Earl enjoyed fishing, bowling and working in his yard.
Earl is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lorraine; four children, Jerry (Kalle) of Kewaskum; Carol (James) Gibb of Menomonie; Rodney (Rebecca) of Elmwood; Jeffrey (Debbie) of Fall Creek; eight grandchildren, Katrina, Haley, Jacob, Alicia, Jesse, Collin Rachel and Brent; four great grandchildren; a brother Lyle (Betty) Gilles of Plum City; many nieces, nephew and other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Lucille Seipel and Helen Gilles; five brothers, Leonard, Ernie, Ray, Alfred and Walter.
