Dorothy E Matter
Dorothy E. Matter, age 104 of Menomonie, died Sunday, December 12, 2010 at the Dunn County Health Care Center in Menomonie.
Dorothy was born on July 7, 1906 on her parents’ farm in the Town of Weston, rural Dunn County. She was the daughter of Albert and Katherine (Wolbert) Stoll. Dorothy attended St. Joseph’s School. After school, Dorothy worked on her family’s farm for several years. Dorothy married Joseph Matter on June 19, 1928 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Menomonie. They lived in Menomonie all of their lives and raised five children together. Joe passed away in 1965.
Dorothy was an outgoing, friendly woman, who often invited people over to her home for Sunday dinner after morning Mass. She loved fishing and playing music on the piano as well as the accordion. Gardening was a necessary undertaking during the years of raising her family and she continued to enjoy her raspberry patch. Dorothy continued to garden until her mid 90’s. Most of all, Dorothy loved to spend time with family and friends. For the past three years, she has been a resident of the Dunn County Health Care Center in Menomonie. At 104, Dorothy, had the privilege of being the oldest living parishioner of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
Dorothy is survived by her four sons, James (Faith) of Fairchild, Harold (Carol) of Dixon, CA, Donald of Vashon Island, WA and Richard (Kathie) of Elk Mound, 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Joe (1965), two sisters, Agnes Stoll in infancy and Caroline Brehm, one daughter, Clara Kaiser (2010), one daughter-in-law, Mary Matter and a grandson, Jeffrey Matter.
