Erwin Garvel (Herb)Herbison 11-8-10

Erwin “Herb” Herbison, age 88, currently a resident of the Plum City Care Center and formerly of Maiden Rock was born in rural Plum City, WI on February 8, 1922 to Tom and Eve (Clifford) Herbison. He died surrounded by his loving family at the Chippewa Valley Hospital of Durand on November 8th, 2010.

In his early years as an adult he farmed in the Plum City area. Following that he moved to Janesville, WI, where he worked at a feed mill for a short period of time. In 1948 he moved to Elmwood and bought a cattle trucking business which was to become his life’s mission. He retired from the business while living in Maiden Rock, WI in the mid to late 80”s. He was best known for his honesty, reliability and ability to get along with just about anybody.

In 1943 he married Vera Joyce Peterson with whom he had three children and is survived by, Kathy Herbison, Baldwin, WI, Karen Herbison (James) Hoyt, Nikiski, AK., Ken Herbison, (Carol) Sarnstrom, Mellen, WI. Herb and Joyce were Divorced in 1953.

Herb married his second wife, Lorraine Henke in 1957. They were divorced in 1967.

Herb married Kate Smith (Crownhart) on May 2nd, 1969 in South Dakota. They made their home on a small farm in the Rush River Valley near Maiden Rock. He is survived by daughters, Pat Crownhart, Spring Valley, WI and Ann (Mike) McKernon, Owatonna, MN, and four step children, Robert J. “Bart”, (Ann) Crownhart, St. Paul, MN, Diane K. “Suzie” Crownhart, Luck, WI, Scott A. (Peggy) Crownhart, Red Wing, MN, Marta J. (Brian) Ender, Eau Claire, WI. He is also survived by 18 Grandchildren and 17 Great Grandchildren, along with nieces and nephews. He loved having his family around and the more the merrier. He also loved spending time with friends and playing cards non stop.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Kate, his bothers, Richard and Donald Herbison and two grandchildren.

Private graveside services will be held at the Sacred Heart Cemetery – Farm Hill, rural Elmwood. Friends may call from 4-8 PM Thursday at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Durand.

In lieu of flowers – memorials are preferred.
