Priscilla J Timper
Priscilla J. Timper, age 67, of Wheeler, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, November 3, 2010, at Dunn County Health Care Center, surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Priscilla was born June 7, 1943, in Escanaba, Michigan, to Walter and Barbara (Simonick) Tomich. She lived in Mississippi while her father served in World War II and later in Menominee, Michigan where she graduated from Menominee High School.
Priscilla received a B.A. degree in Psychology in 1970 from the University of Wisconsin – Stout and a M.S. degree in Sociology in 1972 from Utah State University. Her M.S. thesis was entitled “An Acculturation Study of Japanese-American Buddhists in Northern Utah.” She received a Ph.D. degree in Sociology in 1981 from Utah State University. Her dissertation was entitled “The Relationship Between the Adoption of Modern Farm Practices and the Participation of Farm Women in Farm Tasks.” Many hours were spent working with farm women throughout western Wisconsin for her dissertation.
Upon graduation from high school, Priscilla worked as Clerk of Probate and Juvenile Court and Court Stenographer for Menominee County, Michigan. She also worked as a substitute teacher for the Eau Claire, Wisconsin Public Schools and was a sociology instructor from 1972 to 1977 at the University of Wisconsin – Stout. She later worked on the family farm and architectural business with her husband.
Priscilla married her high school sweetheart Hans Timper on August 29, 1964, in Menominee, Michigan.
Priscilla was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She will be missed greatly by her family. She will be remembered for her commitment to family and exceptional tolerance. Priscilla enjoyed working in her flower gardens, reading, writing, traveling, and most of all spending time with her grandsons.
Priscilla is survived by her husband of 46 years, Hans; her son Nat (Ilona) of Wheeler; her grandsons Luke and Mark of Wheeler; her brothers and sisters Leonard (Kathleen) of Oak Creek, Wisconsin, Ann Pape of Menominee, Michigan, Jim (Beth) of Menominee, Michigan, Robert of Menominee, Michigan, Frances Zimmerman (Paul) of San Angelo, Texas, Carol Sporrer of Menominee, Michigan, Esther Micheals (Frank) of Marinette, Wisconsin; and many nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Barbara Tomich.
Any memorials received will be designated by the family to a need in the local community. The family suggests memorials in lieu of flowers.
A memorial service will be held at noon, Saturday, November 13, 2010, at the Rhiel Funeral Home, 2317 Schneider Avenue South East, in Menomonie, Wisconsin, with the Lama Tsultrim Yeshe (John Samuelson) officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to noon before the memorial service at the Rhiel Funeral Home.
