Alfred B. Bauer, age 90 of Durand, died Sunday, October 31, 2010 at the Oakview Care Center in Durand with his family by his side.

Alfred was born on February 28, 1920 on the family farm in the Town of Lima, rural Durand. He was the son of Charles B. and Julia (Heitz) Bauer. Alfred grew up in the Lima area and attended school at the Fall Creek Country School. After school, Alfred farmed with his dad on the family farm. He took over the farm from his dad in 1941. Alfred married Lorena M. Fedie on May 11, 1943 at Holy Rosary Church in Lima. Alfred and Lorena were blessed with four wonderful children. After marriage they lived on the farm and raised their family. Alfred sold the farm to his daughter and son-in-law Rosemary and Mike F. Brion in 1980. After selling the farm he continued to help out at the farm whenever he could. For the last six years, Alfred has been a resident of the Oakview Care Center in Durand.

Alfred enjoyed woodworking, dancing, playing cards, he was known as the “Pfeiffer King,” playing bingo, watching and attending wrestling events and traveling. He was an active member of the Catholic Families in the Lima Branch, serving as President for several years. Alfred was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and a life long member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Most of all, Alfred loved to spend time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Alfred is survived by his wife of 67 years Lorena, four children, Duane (Delores) of Durand, Dorothy (Dave) Hays of Eau Claire, Rosemary (Mike) Brion of Durand and Mike J. (Betty) of Mondovi, ten grandchildren, Doug, Darrin, Dixie, David, Linda, Curt, Kim, Cory, Jamye and Jodi, eleven great grandchildren, Devany, Drae, Austin, Kyle, Christopher, Kaylee, Kelci, McKenzie, Ashley, Logan and Kalea, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, a great grandson Dustin in infancy, four brothers, August, Paul, Leo and Albert and one sister, Clara Weissinger.
