Maurice J. Howe age 85 of Menomonie, died Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at Our House Assisted Living in Menomonie.

Maurice was born on February 27, 1925 to Carl and Anna (Brehm) Howe. He served in the Korean Conflict as a Marine Reserve in 1950. On July 8, 1952 Maurice married the former Eileen Hofacker of Elmwood. Maurice had his own business hauling milk for several years and eventually sold it to his brother, Wilbur. A life long resident of Menomonie, Maurice started Menomonie Transportation and was a school-bus contractor until 1991, when his son David took over the business. Maurice purchased his first bus when he was a senior in high school. In 1977, he was voted Wisconsin School Bus Association Contractor of the year. In the early years at the bus company, Maurice and Eileen both drove school bus.

Throughout Maurice’s lifetime owning the bus company, he experienced several generations of children in the Menomonie School District. Maurice had many stories to tell about the children over the years.

The past 20 years, Maurice and Eileen have enjoyed winters in North Fort Myers, Florida.

Maurice is survived by his wife of 58 years, Eileen, two sons, Thomas (Joanne) of Indianapolis, IN and David (Lori) of Menomonie, two grandsons, Ryan and Kyle, both of Menomonie, one sister, Anella Frank of Glenwood City, one brother Wilbur (Ivy) of Menomonie, one sister-in-law, Marie Howe of Menomonie, many cousins, in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Eugene Howe and sister, Lorraine Trainor.

The family prefers memorials to St. Joseph Catholic Church or School or the donors choice.
