Sylvia Pittman
Sylvia A. Pittman, age 81 of Arkansaw, died Monday, August 2, 2010 at her home in Arkansaw.
Sylvia was born on August 2, 1929 in the Town of Lima rural Durand. She was daughter of Ignatz and Cecelia (Schlosser) Bauer. Sylvia grew up in the Lima area, attended and graduated from Sacred Heart School in Lima. She worked for St. Benedict’s Hospital in Durand as a nurse for several years. Sylvia married William C. “Bill” Pittman on June 7, 1955 in Lima. After marriage, they farmed on the Pittman family farm for many years. Together, Sylvia and Bill raised two wonderful children, Greg and Karen. Sylvia also volunteered her time to provide transportation for senior citizens around the area.
Sylvia was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Arkansaw, she had a love for making afghans and giving them to people throughout the area. In addition to her giving spirit, she enjoyed collecting owls and babysitting all of her grandchildren.
Sylvia is survived by her husband of 55 years Bill, two children, Gregory (Deborah) Pittman of Arkansaw, Karen (Kelly) Patton of Chanhassen, MN, seven grandchildren, Angela, Jodie, Travis, Teresa, Jason, Joseph and Austin, nine great grandchildren, one brother, Marlo Bauer of Durand, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents and one sister Arletta Brantner.
