Everett S Biles
Everett S. Biles, age 79 of Durand died Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at the Oakwood Villa Nursing Home in Altoona.
Everett was the son of Sherman and Beulah (Severson) Biles. He was born in Durand and raised in Porcupine area of rural Arkansaw, Pepin County. He attended Porcupine School and Durand High School, graduating in 1948. Everett served in the U.S. Army from 1949 to 1952, serving in Korea. In 1951 he became a member of General Douglas MacArthur’s Honor Guard, serving in that position for six months. Following his discharge from the Army in June of 1952, he worked at Bauer Brothers Motors in Durand for 10 years. He then worked for the City of Durand for three years as a police officer. In 1966 he became a Wisconsin State Patrol Officer, serving for 21 years until retiring in 1987. Everett married Virginia Hedin in 1957. They later divorced.
Everett was a member of the Durand Masonic Lodge #149, 32nd Degree, Eastern Star, DAV, American Legion Post #181 of Durand and the VFW. He did a lot of volunteer driving for both the VA and Pepin County Senior Center.
Everett is survived by one daughter, Terri Lee Biles of Durand, one son, Todd (Marianne) Biles of Glendora, CA, one sister, Marlene (Ed) Sabelko of Durand, one brother, Thomas (Marcella) Biles of Arkansaw, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Theresa.
