Helen M Bauer

Helen Monica (Ilgen) Bauer passed away at Hillview Assisted Living, in Mondovi, Wisconsin on March 26, 2025 at the age of 93. She was born on September 23, 1931 in Durand to Frank and Mabel (Hansen) Ilgen.
Helen graduated from Durand High School and went on to Whitewater to obtain her teaching certificate. She married William J. Bauer on August 18, 1952. They made their home in the Durand area where they raised five children. Helen’s full time job was keeping the home running and raising the children as well as a partner in the family farming operation. She ran the household like a captain running a tight ship. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing cards, traveling, and was a die hard Packer fan. She loved and cherished her family and friends.
Helen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill; her sisters Margaret Ilgen, Kathleen (Schuh), Lucille (Wilson), Mary Ann (Ward), Joan (Bauer), Thelma (Wallace), Francis (Christopherson), Judy (Peart), and her brother, Frank Ilgen. She is survived by her children David Bauer (Robin), Steve Bauer (Tina), Jeff Bauer (Karen), Mary Brion (Dave), and Donna Owen (Mark); 12 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.
A special thank you to her health care provider of many years, Jane Poeschel and the staff of Advent Health; to Tammy Yuhas and other dedicated staff at Hillview Assisted Living in Mondovi. Also, a special thanks to St. Croix Hospice for providing comfort in her final days.
Memorial Mass will be 11:30AM Monday, April 14, 2025 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church-Lima in Durand with Rev. Emmanuel Asamoah-Bekoe officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:30AM until the time of services at the church on Monday.
