Rick R Schaal
Rick R. Schaal, age 71, of Durand, died Friday, March 14, 2025, at his home in the Township of Maxville, rural Durand.
Rick was born July 10, 1953, in Lancaster, WI, the son of Norman and Dorothy (Gabel) Schaal. He grew up in Potosi and graduated from Potosi High School in 1971. Rick started his working career at the Potosi Brewery and later worked for Dairyland Power until he retired. Rick married Jacalyn Feldt Hopper in 1994 and spent 30 years in the Buffalo County area. He was an avid bass fisherman participating in numerous tournaments on the Mississippi River and beyond. He loved spending time outdoors and hunting and trapping.
Rick is survived by his wife, Jackie; three children, Craig Hopper, Eric (Hope) Hopper, and Nathan (Sara) Hopper; five grandchildren, Vincent, Hailee, Leah, Logan, and Kayden; one brother, Steven (Kari) Schaal; four nephews, Alston, Logan, Gabel, and Skyler; and a grandniece Kerrigan. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Rest in peace, Rick. You lived your life peacefully but with purpose. Those who knew you will miss you, but your memory will live on in the stories shared and the quiet moments of reflection. Farewell.
A celebration honoring his memory will be held on March 29th at the Senior Center in Durand from 1 pm to 5 pm. In Beloit, WI April 12th, time and place pending, and interment on April 13th in Cassville Cemetery time pending.
