David R. Hayden, age 74 of Durand, died Sunday, February 23, 2025 at his home in Durand.

Dave was born on August 7, 1950 in Durand. He was the son of William and Genevieve (Brunner) Hayden. Dave grew up in Durand and graduated Durand High School in 1968. Dave married the love of his life, Barbara Jean “Boots” Hovland on November 11, 1972 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Durand. Dave coached boys and girls basketball at Holy Rosary Lima Schools for many successful seasons.

Dave was a proud member of the Zor Shriners Mehara Shrine Club in Eau Claire for many years and he also served for several years on the Pepin County Housing Authority. Dave enjoyed woodworking, fishing and restoring old cars. Most of all he loved spending time with family and friends.

  4. Fr. Bosco

Dave is a wonderful person and the fear of Lord keeps him more to be with HIM, he did not miss the Day of Obligations in Lima Church. One day he came to me for the Sacrament of Reconciliation after many long years and i understood the Love of Christ in his life. He loves his wife so much and offered always a Mass for her. Now it's time for him to know that Dave you are remembered in the Mass always. Rest in Peace.

  5. Barb[Chasteen]Schmidt

My condolences to all of David's loved ones. Sounds like David had a good life and once again is reunited with his beloved wife "Boots". I also knew Boots. Grew up on the same block and remember spending time with David and Susan and remember when Dennis was born. I remember falling off the wall on 4th Ave East and getting the wind knocked out of myself. I was quickly attended to by Mr/Mrs Hayden. Also remember the countless times that your Dad would stop in front of our house on the corner of Wells and 3rd Avenue East and pick up my sister JoAnne and I for a ride to St. Marys School in the morning-especially on really really cold winter mornings. It was deeply appreciated then and remembered yet to this day. Remember one morning when I was in 8th grade that it was so cold that no one's car would start. We were forced to walk that mile in our winter gear[had to wear a skirt of course]so we wore long pants under them.As I and my girlfriend were walking up the church steps [by the Blessed Virgin's statue] our eyelashes froze shut from the frost that formed on them from holding our mittens over our faces as we exhaled. As soon as we got into the church, the frost melted and we could see.My faith is a blessing. A faith that fell on fertile ground as the proverbial mustard seed, was nurtured and tended to by the sisters/teachers and priests who taught at St Marys and continues to flourish today. I pray that faith will sustain you in the coming days as you adjust to your lives without David's physical presence.Long live his memory in the lives he touched and the difference he made in them.

  6. Gary & Ruth Lukes

David was a gentle giant in every sense of the word with a belly laugh that engulfed all that were gathered around him. When life threw him medical curveballs, he did his best to knock them out of the ballpark. David's woodworking skills were legendary, and we were fortunate recipients of one of his "rocking dogs" which the little ones used over and over again (they were sturdy enough even for some of the not so little ones to play with). David was extremely helpful with projects at the Spring Valley Stagehands Theatre over the years and his plumbing skills helped us get water to locations we never thought were possible. He was even coaxed once or twice to come up on stage during our performances. His contributions to Durand and surrounding areas were so very significant and they will not be forgotten by any of us. His legacy will forever live among the many lives he touched, and his passing will leave a large void in the tapestry of Durand. We all are much better people for having David in our lives. Gary & Ruth Lukes and family.

    Matthew 25:23

“His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!

Appreciate the day and what we have.
    Tomorrow is unknown.

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
