Joan M Peterson

Joan M Peterson, age 75 of Stockholm, died Monday, February 17, 2025 at the Plum City Care Center in Plum City with her family by her side.

Joan was born on May 4, 1949 in Durand. She was the daughter of Roy and Betty (Shannon) Raethke. Joan grew up in the Pepin area and graduated from Pepin High School in 1967. After high school, Joan married Bruce Peterson on September 15, 1967 at the Little Plum Church in rural Pepin. Joan and Bruce lived in the Lund area where they worked and raised their family. Joan was a homemaker and worked various jobs until her sons reached high school. She then went back to school, attended UW-Eau Claire and attained her bachelor’s degree in sociology. Joan went on to become an advocate for abused women in Menomonie and Red Wing, MN until her retirement.

Joan enjoyed flower gardening, being a seamstress, canning, quilting, camping and fishing. She also enjoyed collecting hickory nuts before the squirrels got to them and agates. Joan liked doing genealogy, including taking yearly trips to Salt Lake City, Utah, to look up family information in the Mormon Libraries. She loved talking with people and made friends with all of them.

Joan is survived by her husband of  57 years, Bruce; sons, Bob (Leanna) of Owatonna, MN and Scott (Leslie) of Marshfield; grandchildren, Nicholas and Hailey; siblings, Roger Raethke and Ralph (Tami) Raethke, both of Pepin and Joyce (John) Stewart of Stockholm; sister-in-law, Tetsuko Raethke of Georgia, all the nieces and nephews that she loved dearly, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Ron Raethke.

Memorial Services will be 10:00AM Saturday, March 8, 2025 at the Lund Mission Covenant Church in Lund with Rev. Darren Catron officiating. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Pepin at a later date. Visitation will be from 9:00AM until the time of services at the church on Saturday. A Luncheon will be held immediately following services at Molly’s on Main in Plum City.

    Joan will be greatly missed by her family. I remember going to Aunt Betty and Uncle Roy to see the kids and when we would go coon hunting at night. How Joan and I would talk about her friends and our cousins. I miss them times. Prayers to all of you!!! Love your cousin Eretta
