Jerald M Johnson, age 83 of Nelson, died Monday, February 17, 2025 at his home in Urne with his family by his side.

Jerry was born on March 6, 1941, on the Johnson family farm. He was born, lived, and died in the same house. He was the son of Johnnie and Margaret (McNish) Johnson. He was a gifted mechanic starting from 11 years old, always willing to share his gift with others. Jerry worked at garages in Urne, Pepin, and Mondovi before taking over the family farm. In 1968, Jerry met the love of his life, Yvonne Sandberg. They were married on August 31, 1968 at Lyster Lutheran Church in Urne. After marriage they farmed and raised their family on the family farm. Jerry drove many miles picking up deer hides and he also drove dump truck for nine years, while still farming.

Jerry enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting, he hunted for 71 years with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends. He also liked waterskiing, spending every Sunday on the water. Jerry was a lifelong member of Lyster Lutheran Church, he was baptized, confirmed, married, and will be buried at his church. Most of all, Jerry loved spending time with family and friends.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 56 years, Yvonne; children: Jeff (Michelle) of Nelson; Sheri (Dave) Denowski of Peshtigo; Tim (Amy) of Inver Grove Heights, MN; Valerie (James) Fedie of Altoona, and Ricky (DeeDee) of Nelson; 15 grandchildren: Alex (John); Sarah (Gerald); Jacob (Nicole); Ellie (Peter); Ted (Andi); Maggie (Joel); Isabelle; Kathryn; Eden; TJ; Anna; Mary; Isak; Lacie and Mason (Paige), seven great grandchildren: Owen; Henry; Aria; Hannah; Weston; Reed; and Jesse; two sisters: Marilyn (Jerry) Rud of Mondovi and Janis (Bill) Gibson of Eau Claire, sister-in-law: Pauline Johnson of Arcadia, IA, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Raymond; Ronald Johnson and Willard Mathis and two sisters: Arleane Erickson and Glenis Hentges.

Funeral Services will be 11:30AM Friday, February 28, 2025 at Lyster Lutheran Church in Urne, rural Nelson with Rev. Michael Vetsch officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00PM-7:00PM at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Durand and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
