Ramona J VanSchoonhoven
Ramona “Monie” J VanSchoonhoven 92, passed away on December 12, 2024, at the Plum City Care Center.
She was born January 13, 1932 in Elmwood, WI to William & Olive (O’Connell) Hopwood.
Ramona married William VanSchoonhoven May 31, 1950 at the Little Brown Church in Vale in Nashua, Iowa. After marriage they purchased a farm in the Township of Union where they farmed and raised their family. Monie was a true homemaker keeping busy freezing and canning everything grown in her garden.
She worked as a Nurse’s Aid at the TAD Nursing Home in Plum City for 6 years, she then became a cook at the School District of Plum City where she worked until retirement.
Monie was a fabulous cook and baker, always ready to share her great creations with family and friends. She had a giant caring heart and always invited anyone without a place to be on holidays or special occasions to sit at our table. Monie enjoyed sewing, (quilting), reading, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends.
Monie is survived by five children, Charles (Mary) VanSchoonhoven of Prescott; Denise (Terry) Pelzel of Maiden Rock; Lori (Dave) Klein of Durand, Gary (Karen) VanSchoonhoven of McFarland, and Rhonda (Troy Gansluckner) VanSchoonhoven of Maiden Rock; 14 grandchildren, Greg(Jaci), Eric (Katherine), Shannon (Jarod), Mike (Lisa), Scott (Casey), Brice (Mary), Jon, Angie (Fred), Emily, Nicole (Cody), Courtney (friend Brendon) Brett, Noah (Mikinzie), and Elijah; seventeen great grandchildren; two sisters Marilyn Slonecker of Greeley, CO; Karen Olek of Inver Grove Heights, MN; two sisters-in-law, Wanda Hopwood of Spooner; and Cathy Hopwood of Elmwood several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Bill, her parents, two children, Scott and Kay, two brothers Morse Hopwood and Larry Hopwood.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at The Season’s and the Plum City Care Center where she resided for the past 7 years. along with St. Croix Hospice for their visits and extended care.
Memorial Services will be 11:00AM Monday, December 23, 2024 at Ono United Methodist Church in rural Plum City with Rev. David Kim officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00PM-7:00PM Sunday at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Durand and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
