Leon C. Stringer, age 78, of Menomonie, died Wednesday August 28, 2024, at Hammond Health Services in Hammond.

Leon was born September 28, 1945, in Elmwood.  He was the son of Earl and Laura (Fuhrman) Stringer and grew up in the Elmwood area.  Leon attended Elmwood schools and graduated from Elmwood High School in 1963.  He served in the U.S. Army during the VietNam War.  Leon married Cleora Graff August of 1970, and together had three children and later divorced.  Leon farmed in the Township of Lucas for several years.  Later, he moved into Menomonie and began his career as a bus driver for Menomonie Transportation, for almost 40 years.

Leon was an avid sports fan, he enjoyed watching the Badgers, Green Bay Packers and never missed a Menomonie Football game, home and away, with long-time friend, Jerry MrDutt.   He was a collector of Green Bay and John Deere collectibles.  He attended many auctions of Lee Auction Services, in person and online.  Leon always had a puzzle on his table.  His children and grandchildren were most important to him.

Leon is survived by his three children, Jodi Stringer of DeForest, Aaron (Renee Jaeger) Stringer of Hutchinson, MN, Jill Seichter of Hudson; seven grandchildren, Alec, Justice, Brandon, Jordan, Jaedon, Josie, Brianna; six great grandchildren; a sister Violet Leehe of Indiana, numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings and spouses, Don (Jan) Stringer, Carol (Gene) VanSchoonhoven, Joyce (Lavern) Seipel, Diane (Marvin) Gibson, James Stringer.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Tuesday September 3, 2024, at Rhiel Funeral Home in Menomonie.  Burial will be at a later date at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner. 

To honor Leon, please join us in wearing your favorite Green Bay Packers, Badgers or Menomonie Mustang attire.

    I met Leon at our mutual grandson, Brandon’s, graduation celebration. We spoke for several hours about numerous things, including the Packers, Badgers. He was kind and very pleasant to speak with. I am praying for the family during this difficult time.
